Decision Trigger – Is this revolver for you?
✔️ Shoot at will if:
You want maximum barrel presence: The long $7 \frac{1}{2}$-inch "Cavalry" barrel provides a sweeping, commanding frontier silhouette that represents the definitive military-issue length of the Old West.
You demand authentic heft: The Heavy Weight (HW) composite material packs metal powder into the frame and barrel, giving this long wheelgun a realistic, cold-to-the-touch feel and substantial weight.
- You want game-ready consistency: Driven by the upgraded Pegasas II gas system, it conceals a stable gas reservoir and a practical BB capacity directly inside the cylinder wheel for reliable field performance.
❌ Hold your fire if:
You prefer fast-drawing ergonomics: The extended barrel profile makes it front-heavy to balance and significantly slower to clear a holster compared to shorter 4.75-inch models.
You crave individual shell play: Because the internal Pegasus mechanism prioritizes ammunition capacity and high gas efficiency, it bypasses individual mock brass cartridge loading entirely.
- You need high-speed firing capabilities: True to its single-action legacy, the hammer must be manually cocked back with your thumb before every single pull of the trigger.
『Takeaway: The Tanaka Colt SAA 2nd Gen 7.5-inch Pegasus 2 HW is a beautiful, long-barreled tribute to wild west frontier history. It trades swift handling and individual shell-ejecting choreography for an imposing Cavalry profile, dense composite material realism, and a highly efficient gas system. It stands out as the premier choice for reenactors and collectors who want maximum barrel length paired with stable, skirmish-level gas performance.』
SAA 2nd 7”HW Pegasus 2 Gas Revolver
Introduced in 1873, the Colt Single Action Army became one of the most legendary revolvers ever made, symbolizing the American West. Chambered in .45 Long Colt and famously known as the “Peacemaker,” it has remained in civilian production despite multiple pauses and design changes.
The postwar Second Generation models (1956–1974), produced after WWII, can be identified by their front-secured cylinder base pin and revised ejector rod shape, differing from early black powder First Generation versions. These later models became staples of Western films and television, gaining worldwide popularity—including in Japan.
Interest in the SAA has surged again in recent years through films, video games, and Western-themed action titles, reinforcing its iconic status.
Tanaka introduced its original Pegasus SAA in 1999, pioneering a new approach to gas revolvers by integrating the gas reservoir and magazine mechanism directly inside the cylinder. This design delivered a more authentic internal structure and smoother trigger feel than traditional cartridge-style gas systems. In 2005, a detachable cylinder version further enhanced realism and simplified maintenance.
The rise of cowboy shooting and fast-draw competitions pushed the platform to its limits, revealing durability challenges under high-speed, high-stress use. In response, Tanaka began a comprehensive redesign around 2018, focusing on strength, realism, and competitive performance.
The result is the patented PEGASUS 2 system. It features a true-to-life base pin that passes through the cylinder and activates the internal valve, improving both realism and structural integrity.
Reinforced internal components, added cushioning parts, and an adjustable hop-up system enhance durability and field performance. The internal magazine design provides 15 rounds, plus a 10-round reserve housed in the ejector tube—for a total of 25 shots.
Many components, including the hammer, trigger, bolt, backstrap, and grip, remain compatible with earlier detachable-cylinder models, ensuring support for existing users.
Now available in the long-awaited 7½-inch Cavalry Heavyweight version, this model offers increased mass and improved realism over the already substantial ABS version. The heavyweight resin construction also allows for custom bluing, expanding personalization possibilities.
