Decision Trigger – Is this revolver for you?
✔️ Send it if:
- you value realism and craftsmanship over performance stats — the heavyweight build delivers a dense, “cold metal” feel despite its polymer construction
- you prefer controlled, deliberate shooting — the 3-inch barrel improves stability and sighting over snub-nose variants while keeping it compact
- you’re into collector-grade or roleplay-focused sidearms — this is more about experience, realism, and feel than competitive skirmish efficiency
❌ Hold your fire if:
- you need high-capacity firepower — even with Tanaka’s system, it remains a low-capacity revolver platform (around 10 rounds)
- you want fast reloads and aggressive gameplay — revolvers inherently lag behind semi-auto pistols in speed and efficiency
- you rely on maximum durability for hard skirmishing — it’s tuned for 134a/duster gas and realistic cycling, not high-stress abuse
『Takeaway: The M49 Bodyguard isn’t built to dominate skirmishes—it’s built to feel real. It delivers one of the most compact and authentic revolver experiences in airsoft, prioritizing realism, handling, and character over speed, capacity, or raw efficiency.』

The Tanaka Airsoft M49 Bodyguard 3” Heavy Weight V2 Gas Revolver is a compact revolver inspired by the classic Chief Special design, purpose-built in concept for discreet carry and snag-free handling.
The original Bodyguard concept stems from the compact revolver line developed by Smith & Wesson, particularly the Chief’s Special J-frame series introduced in the mid-20th century. The defining feature of the Bodyguard variant is its partially shrouded or concealed hammer, reducing the risk of snagging on clothing while maintaining the option for controlled single-action operation.
Tanaka Works faithfully recreates this distinctive profile in gas revolver form. Based on the latest Version 2 J-frame Pegasus platform, the model offers smooth cylinder rotation and improved gas efficiency for consistent shooting performance. Heavyweight resin construction combined with zinc die-cast components provides a realistic balance and solid feel in hand, while detailed engravings enhance visual authenticity.
Compact, refined, and historically inspired, this model blends collectible appeal with practical gas revolver function.
The original Chief’s Special was introduced in 1950 and quickly became one of the most recognizable compact revolvers in the United States.
The “Bodyguard” name was used for variants featuring a shrouded hammer, designed to improve draw smoothness from concealment.
J-frame revolvers became widely used as backup sidearms by law enforcement and as civilian defensive revolvers due to their compact dimensions.
Their small size and rounded contours made them particularly suited for discreet carry applications.
